In true self resides

Trapped in mind's domain.

Modifications of mind are five in kind

That results in pain and gain.

They are misconceptions, proven theory

Fancy, deep sleep and memory.

Right knowledge

Is intuition, deduction and testimony.

Misconception is erroneous notion

Arise from incorrect cognition.

Fancy is an instance

Of sound devoid of substance

Deep sleep is then

When mind is a dulled one

When mental modifications are none

And subject matters are gone

Memory is mental retention

Mental modifications cease

With detachment and practice

The effort that steadies

Is practice

Practice long without break and with devotion

Is firm in foundation.

There is dispassion

When for objects seen or heard there is no attraction

He is a supreme being

Who has, even for qualities of objects, no craving

Reasoning, reflection, elation and the ego true

These lead to awareness pure

Practice further with no break

Leads one to a mindless state.

Becoming aware, the disembodied

In own nature abide.

Faith, Vitality, Memory, Absorption and Illumination

These then are the requisites for self-realisation

Those of intense will

Remain still.

Success on the means depends

Mild, medium or intense

Or union may be had

By surrender to God

God is a special person

Unaffected by affliction or action

In God, the germ of all knowledge

Is forever lodged.

Untouched by time

And word is AUM

Realise content

Then there is knowledge gain

Obstacles do not remain

Disease dullness and doubt

Laziness and sloth

Confusion and lack of concentration

False perception and unsteady mind

Are obstacles different kind

Distress, despair and trembling of body

And improper breathing accompany

Obstacles to eliminate

On a single object concentrate

Towards the happy, friendship and compassion

Indifference to happiness or unhappiness, elevation or depression

That is the quality

That brings tranquility

Mind may be calmed

By a breath regulation norm.

Or, Concentrate on

A sense organ

(Commentary)

Or, Focus the mind

On an inner light

Fix your mind

On a Holy Saint

Or, Focus thought stream

On a object of dream

Concentrate well

On a chosen symbol

Self becomes one with and knows right

Objects, atomic or infinite.

Stilled thoughts result

In one ness with object

Reflects like crystal

Its name, form and content

One ness with object,

Its name form and content;

Is absorption

With deliberation

One ness with object

With no memory of name, form and content;

Is absorption

With out deliberation

Subtle object concentration

Is absorption with reflection

||1.45||

Behind objects subtle

Is cause primal

These absorption states indeed

Are but, with seed.

On absorption with super reflection

Mind remains with no deflection

(Commentary)

On such absorption, perception is pure

And unfailingly true

Inferential knowledge is of one kind.

No match to knowledge through absorption gained

This new impression on mind

Wipes all other kind.

With the last impression also gone

Absorption is now a seedless one.
